Computer Maintenance and Troubleshooting

Do you know when you last performed maintenance on your computer?

Do you know how to clean-up your computer?

Computer maintenance -- performing certain tasks on a regular basis -- is essential to keep your computer running at its best.  If you have a computer that is misbehaving or has slowed down over time, you probably need computer service.

Computer maintenance should begin when you first set up your computer.  Computer setup involves configuring your workspace, plugging in and installing drivers for all peripheral devices, (printers, scanners, cameras, etc.), and installing any other purchased software.

Once your computer is up and running, you should keep track of the programs that are installed in order to optimize your computer's performance.

  • If a program is no longer needed it should be uninstalled.  You can always reinstall it, if you find you need it.

  • If a newer version of the program is to be installed, uninstall the old version first to save disk space.

  • If your hard drive has less than 20% of its space available, you may want to either get a larger hard drive or install another hard drive.  Windows likes lots of free space on your hard drive(s).

  • If your computer is more than three years old, consider adding additional RAM memory to improve performance.

If you need help setting up a new computer or in maintaining your current one, just give us a call.  We are always ready to lend a hand.
